PROJECT 2: SPORTS GEAR

Prototype 1

A baseball bat is a smooth wooden or metal club used in the sport of baseball to hit the ball after it is thrown by the pitcher. The bat's form has become more refined over time. In the mid-19th century, baseball batters were known to shape their own bats by hand, which resulted in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and weights. For example, there were flat bats, round bats, short bats, and fat bats. Earlier bats were known to be much heavier and larger than today's regulated ones. During the 19th century, many shapes were experimented with, as well as handle designs. Today, bats are much more uniform in design. It is designed to hit a ball with high force in a small area. Compared to metal clubs, wooden clubs are much lighter than metal ones. So, a wooden bat is easier to perform a swing continuously. With the force combined with the bat’s hardness, it could be a lethal weapon to damage a witch or wizard.

 

Prototype 2

A cloth wrap is added to have a better grip on the bat, which helps to generate more power when swinging. It also prevents the bat from slipping out. Besides, nails are added to the bat to cause more damage. With the help of nails, the damage done could be more severe. However, adding nails to the bat would only lessen the use period of the bat. The bat would be broken after using it for a short period of time. This is because the nail has broken the body of the bat and the impact while using the bat also affects the bat to be broken more faster.

Prototype 3

 

A hockey stick is a long, wooden pole used to push, pass, or shoot in the sports of ice hockey and field hockey. The hockey sticks are made of strong wood or composite materials. The hockey sticks are approximately 150-200 cm long. The maximum blade length of the hockey is 12.5 inches. Longer blades help to maximize the shot power. This hockey stick is 150cm. The speed while using the hockey stick could be faster. The blade length of the hockey blade is also shorter. Also, due to the material of the hockey stick, an injury could be easily made.

 

Prototype 4

A tape is added to the grip of the hockey stick to have a better grip on the stick without a glove. It also protects our hands when we use it without a glove. The length of the hockey stick I chose is 200cm. The blade length of the hockey blade is approximately 25cm.

 

 

Prototype 5 / Final Product

A rapier is a type of sword with a slender and sharply pointed two-edged blade that was popular in Western Europe, both for civilian use and as a military sidearm throughout the 16^th and 17^th centuries. The blade might be sharpened along its entire length or sharpened only from the center to the tip. But the rapier still has better thrusting skills than normal swords. In addition, it is also a light and quick weapon. Even though the rapier is not well-known for its cutting skills, it still works surprisingly well.
